Did Jesus command instant flawless performance in Matthew 5:48?
No. In context He is calling for complete love — the Father’s kind of love, even toward enemies.
Teleios means complete, mature, reaching the intended purpose.
The subject around the verse is loving enemies. God sends sun and rain on the just and the unjust. Be like that.
This is not neurotic perfectionism. It is growing into the Father’s way of love.
Verses
- Matthew 5:43-48 — Love your enemies. Be perfect as your Father.
- Luke 6:27-36 — Same call to generous love.
A next step. Practice one act of enemy-love this week. That is the verse in motion.
